The Vietnam War has been the subject of many films. One of the first major films based on the Vietnam War was The Green Berets (1968). Further cinematic representations were released during the 1970s and 1980s, including Oliver Stone's critically acclaimed Platoon (1986), based on his service in the US Military during the Vietnam War, and Full Metal Jacket (1987), among others. Other films in this genre include films that deal more with the issues veterans face at home after returning from the war. Films of this type include Heroes (1977 film) (the first postwar film to be released), Combat Shock (1986), The War at Home (1979), Taxi Driver (1976) Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Dead Presidents (1995), and Music Within (2007). After the Vietnam War ended in 1975, there was an increase in films that were more "raw," containing actual battle footage. A FilmReference.com article noted that filmmakers "appeared more confident to put Vietnam combat on screen for the first time" during that era. These post-war film representations have generally been more realistic and "nitty-gritty," such as The Deer Hunter (1978) and Apocalypse Now (1979). In 480 BC King Xerxes of Persia sent a massive army of about 2500000 men to conquer Greece. His men finally made it to the narrow pass known as Thermopylae. There his army encountered about seven thousand Greeks. Leading the Greek army was the Spartan King Leonidas. King Leonidas of Sparta chose three hundred of his best soldiers to prevent Xerxes from passing the Hot Gates, another name for the narrow pass. The Spartans held off the Persians for three days. On the third day the Persians discovered a hidden path around Thermopylae because of a Greek traitor. Thanks to this path, the Persians surrounded 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians. This video was made to honor the Thespians and the Spartans. (Note that only the Spartans and Persians are shown in the video.)
